Dr. Blum has a broad educational base and a long history of combined medical consultation and research. He has earned a BS degree in electrical engineering and has MS degrees in regulatory biology, biostatistics and epidemiology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Research.
He worked in cardiac surgery at the Cleveland Clinic conducting biomedical engineering work and outcomes research. His work in cardiac risk-stratification was rewarded by a featured JAMA article. Later, he ran clinical research departments at several institutions in Cleveland and in Maine which were devoted to clinical trials and outcomes research that spanned all major clinical departments.
He has taught at two different medical schools and then began his own clinical research company that specialized in designing and conducting clinical trials for supplements and integrative medical practices. While working on various weight loss trials, he developed and refined diet elimination approaches that were wildly successful for weight management.
Several years ago, he came to south Florida and joined Cell Science Systems because of his affinity towards elimination diets. He now runs the Research and Development, Nutrition, and provider liaison departments. He has helped define the ALCAT system that includes a leaky gut and detoxification protocols that appear crucial in reducing inflammatory symptoms in patients with autoimmune conditions. He has a running outcomes study of those individuals doing the program that spans a wide range of conditions that include asthma, arthritis, obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, heart disease, inflammatory intestinal conditions, depression, migraines, skin conditions, some cancers, fibromyalgia, and many other conditions.
The ALCAT team has improved their reliability and has introduced new procedures and new tests including various herbal panels. These herbal and functional food panels are extremely helpful for those who take herbs or who need to follow the leaky gut and detoxification programs.
